The two German cycle sprinters Max Kanter and Pascal Ackermann missed out on a top placing at the start of the UAE Tour.
Kanter finished seventh after 184 kilometres with start and finish in Madinat Zayed, Ackermann was tenth. The Belgian Jasper Philipsen took the win ahead of the Irishman Sam Bennett from the German Bora-hansgrohe team and the Italian Elia Viviani. Ackermann had only joined the UAE team for the first World Tour race of the season at short notice after Fernando Gaviria's positive corona test.
