The two-time Tour de France stage winner has already tested positive for the third time in just over two years and is therefore out of the UAE Tour starting on Sunday.
German sprinter Pascal Ackermann replaces Gaviria in the UAE team. Gaviria tested positive for the first time at the beginning of the pandemic at the Tour of the United Arab Emirates, after which he was stopped by the virus at the Giro d'Italia in October 2020.
