With the signing of Julius Johansen, UAE Team Emirates' squad of 29 riders for the 2025 season is complete, as the team from the United Arab Emirates officially announced on Monday. The 25-year-old Johansen became junior world champion on the road in Bergen (Norway) in 2017 and rode for the World Tour team Intermarche-Wanty in 2022 and 2023.
However, Johansen was unable to establish himself with the Belgian racing team. Most recently, he was under contract with the Portuguese Conti team Sabgal-Anicolor. At UAE, the Dane, who is 1.88 metres tall and weighs 77 kilograms, will primarily take on support roles. "He already has a lot of experience at World Tour level and we believe that his profile can strengthen the team in supporting our captains," says team CEO Mauro Gianetti.
Johansen himself is already looking forward to his new job. "I am incredibly grateful for the trust that UAE Team Emirates has placed in me and for giving me this great opportunity. Joining such a professional and successful team is a dream come true for me."
The Dane is UAE Team Emirates' fifth new signing for 2025. Pablo Torres (UAE Team Emirates Gen Z), Rune Herregodts (Intermarche-Wanty), Florian Vermeersch (Lotto-Dstny) and Jhonantan Narvaez (Ineos Grenadiers). Among the departures are Michael Vink (destination unknown), Sjoerd Bax (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Finn Fisher-Black (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Jose Alvaro Hodeg (destination unknown), Marc Hirschi (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and Diego Ulissi (Astana Qazaqstan Team).
