Ist in Glasgow erneut auf Goldkurs: Emma Hinze jubelt in Schottland.

Track cycling sprinter Emma Hinze is going for her next gold medal at the World Championships in Glasgow. The seven-time world champion clocked the fastest time in the 500 metres qualifying round in 32.850 seconds.

Lea Sophie Friedrich finished fourth in 33.336 seconds and is also within reach of the podium places, as is team-mate Pauline Grabosch (33.371) in fifth place. The final of the top eight will be held on Friday evening. On Thursday, Hinze, Friedrich and Grabosch started the track events with gold in the team sprint.

The German women's foursome, who had won Olympic gold in Tokyo two years ago in world record time, experienced a disappointment. Franziska Brauße, Lisa Klein, Mieke Kröger and Laura Süßemilch only achieved the sixth best time in the 4000 metre team pursuit in 4:15.035 minutes. This means that the maximum that is still possible in the next round on Saturday is a place in the small final. They were 4.7 seconds behind the first-placed British foursome.
