In 2020, Emma Hinze clinched the triple at the World Championships in Berlin. In February, she could make her return to track cycling at the European Championships at the Velodrom there, following the birth of her son.

Eight-time track cycling world champion Emma Hinze could make her comeback at the European Championships on home soil in Berlin in February, following the birth of her son. “The plan at the moment is for her to return for the European Championships. That also depends on how she settles back into training and whether everything goes smoothly,” said national coach Jan van Eijden in the run-up to the World Championships in Shanghai.

Hinze and former track cycling star Maximilian Levy became parents to a son a few months ago; the couple had also recently announced their wedding.

Hinze has fond memories of the track in Berlin. In 2020, she won three titles at the World Championships at the Velodrom – in the sprint, keirin and team sprint. In total, the 29-year-old has won eight World Championship titles and two Olympic medals (silver and bronze in the team sprint). According to van Eijden, she is also set to compete in the team sprint again. The European Championships in Berlin will take place from 10 to 14 February.
