"I will ride the Vuelta. I will be on the start line in Barcelona, together with Primoz. We're going into the race as the captains," the Dane told the Spanish sports newspaper "Marca". Until now, only the start of Giro winner Primoz Roglic in Spain was known. It is unusual for a Tour winner to ride two three-week races in one year.
Vingegaard can win the Tour de France for the second time on Sunday. The Jumbo pro goes into the final stage to Paris with a lead of 7:29 minutes over the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. There, the overall leader is traditionally no longer attacked, which is why only a heavy crash could stop Vingegaard.
The fact that Jumbo is entering the Vuelta with the Slovenian Roglic and Vingegaard is quite surprising. The team last rode with the duo at the Tour de France in 2022, where they were also joint captains at the start. However, Roglic was weakened by a crash early on and did not start the 15th stage. The 33-year-old won the Vuelta from 2019 to 2021, but crashed out in second place last year.
