Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering has won the Women’s Tour de France for the second time since 2023. The European champion successfully defended her yellow jersey with a victory on the final stage, which started and finished in Nice. She clinched the overall victory with a lead of just over a minute over Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma. Germany’s rising star Antonia Niedermaier won the White Jersey as the best young rider and even improved to a strong fourth place by the finish.
Vollering thus took her revenge for her narrow defeat to Niewiadoma at the 2024 Tour, when the Polish rider celebrated overall victory in the cycling mecca of Alpe d’Huez, finishing four seconds ahead of the Dutch rider.
The ninth stage, a 99.2-kilometre circuit featuring four ascents of the Col d'Èze, once again turned into a head-to-head battle between the two leading riders. Both broke away on the final climb; 500 metres before the final mountain classification, Vollering finally launched her attack and secured victory on her own ahead of the Spaniard Paula Blasi. The German riders played no part in the decisive action and are thus still waiting for a stage win in the most important women’s race since 2023.
