40 degrees, red alert – the heatwave continues to have France firmly in its grip. Now the Tour organisers must take action.

The ninth stage of the Tour de France is to be shortened due to the severe heatwave in France. A red heat alert has been issued for the Corrèze department, through which the stage is due to pass, the Tour organisers have announced. As a result, the stage will be shortened from the originally planned 185.5 kilometres through the Massif Central to 155.5 kilometres. This decision was necessary due to the exceptional weather conditions, they said.

Temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius are expected at the start in Malemort tomorrow, and 35 degrees at the finish in Ussel. The stage is also challenging in terms of its profile, with numerous climbs. The start is scheduled for 1.45 pm. The riders are expected to cross the finish line at around 5.30 pm.
