Der Franzose Julian Alaphilippe hat die zweite Etappe der Baskenland-Rundfahrt gewonnen.
French cycling star Julian Alaphilippe has claimed his first victory since his world championship title over five months ago.
The 29-year-old won the second stage of the Tour of the Basque Country over 207.6 kilometres from Leitza to Viana in a sprint ahead of his compatriot Fabien Doubey and the Belgian Quinten Hermans. Vuelta champion Primoz Roglic successfully defended his lead in the overall standings. The Slovenian is five seconds ahead of Belgian talent Remco Evenepoel.
The stage was particularly bitter for the Spaniard Ibon Ruiz. After a solo escape, the 23-year-old was only caught 500 metres from the finish. The tour ends on Saturday in Arrate.
