The stage is set: The stage is set for the anniversary edition of the Tour of the Alps. The stage race runs from 20 to 24 April 2026 from the Golden Roof in Innsbruck over many mountains and across Lake Garda to Trento and finally to the final stage in Bolzano. It is the tenth edition since the neighbouring regions of Tyrol in Austria and South Tyrol and Trentino in Italy joined forces for the first time in 2017 as joint organisers of the stage race.
In total, there are five stages, a distance of 760 kilometres and 14,620 metres in altitude. After the opening stage around Innsbruck, the second day of the race leads over the Reschen Pass to a mountain arrival in the Martell Valley in South Tyrol. On day three, the route leads from the Vinschgau Valley to Arco within sight of Lake Garda. On the way, the Hofmahdjoch is the most difficult part of the race. From Arco, the route leads over the Bordala and Redebus passes to Trento. The final stage from Trento to Bolzano will be anything but a lap of honour. There will be a climb-intensive finale around the capital of South Tyrol before the speedy descent to the finish. New in 2026 are the bonus sprints in the finale of each stage. There, the first three riders can win six, four and two second bonuses.
The challenging climbing test serves many racers as preparation for the Giro d'Italia, which will be held next year from 8 to 31 May. Before the three regions merged as race organisers, the race had already been running for several decades under the name Giro del Trentino. Last year, the Australian Michael Storer (Tudor Pro Cycling) took the overall victory.
