Der Belgier Remco Evenepoel baute seinen Vorsprung aus.
Belgian professional cyclist Remco Evenepoel has extended his lead in the overall standings at the Tour of Spain.

Evenepoel finishes in fourth place

A fourth place on the ninth stage after 171.4 kilometres from Villaviciosa to Les Praeres was enough for the 22-year-old to further distance himself from his direct rivals. South African Louis Meintjes took the day's victory in the mountain finish. The 30-year-old was the breakaway leader ahead of the Italians Samuele Battistella and Edoardo Zambanini.

In the battle for the red jersey, Evenepoel is now 1:12 minutes ahead of the Spaniard Enric Mas. Last year's winner Primoz Roglic from Slovenia is still third overall, 1:53 minutes back.

Monday is a rest day at the Vuelta. The race ends on 11 September in the Spanish capital Madrid.
