The first 100 kilometres of the 16th stage from Carcassonne to Foix present no difficulties. This is followed by two first-category climbs. The 11.4 kilometre long Port de Lers and the 9.3 kilometre long Mur de Péguère. The latter is a tough one.
"It's very steep, very narrow and the public won't have access, just like in 2017," said route director Thierry Gouvenou. However, as the pass is 27 kilometres from the finish, there will probably be no attack among the favourites. It's a day for the breakaways and perhaps the first French victory in this Tour.
