The second stage of the Tour de Suisse Women 2025 promises to be a real challenge for the peloton. On the 161.7-kilometre route from Gstaad to the Sursee campus in Oberkirch, the riders have to overcome a total of 2203 metres in altitude. On paper, this makes this stage the most difficult of the entire tour. The main obstacle of the day is the Schallenberg, whose ascent is likely to bring about the first major selection in the field. Several shorter but no less demanding climbs await the riders in the further course of the stage.
The last categorised climb of the day, which is reached around 20 kilometres before the finish, could be the decisive terrain for attacks by the classification riders. The technically demanding descent and the finale to the finish also offer opportunities for further advances or tactical manoeuvres by the teams.
The stage takes the riders through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Central Switzerland. After the start in Gstaad, known for its charming chalet villages and car-free promenade, the route first leads through the Bernese Oberland. The route continues into the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, which is Switzerland's first biosphere reserve and is known for its unique natural beauty. The historic old town of Willisau with its spacious main street is another highlight of the route, before the final stretch to Sursee on picturesque Lake Sempach.
