Maximilian Schachmann from Team Bora-hansgrohe remains second overall in the Tour de Suisse.
The German professional cyclist crossed the finish line with the peloton on the second stage after 198 kilometres from Küsnacht to Aesch. Schachmann is therefore still four seconds behind the British season opener winner Stephen Williams. Norway's Andreas Leknessund took the day's victory in a solo race.
Leknessund had broken away from a breakaway group in the final stage, which also included the German Jonas Rutsch for a long time.
Second place in the sprint of the peloton, 38 seconds behind, went to the Italian Alberto Bettiol, who mistakenly celebrated his victory. "My radio was off. My friends will annoy me tomorrow," said Bettiol, who didn't realise that Leknessund had broken away.
The third stage over 176.9 kilometres from Aesch to Grenchen is scheduled for Tuesday. The Tour de Suisse ends on Sunday with the individual time trial in Vaduz in Liechtenstein.
