As the Tour de Suisse organisation announced on Thursday, the Nufenen Pass is not passable due to "still large amounts of snow". This means that the 6th stage with the finish in Blatten on Friday 14 June cannot take place as planned.
Initially, two alternative routes were discussed: Option A envisaged starting in Locarno and then travelling over the Gotthard and Furka Passes towards Valais. However, as it was not possible to cross the Furka Pass safely, Plan B came into force: a shortened stage starting in Ulrichen at the Goms Nordic Ski Centre.
This means that the stage, which ends unchanged in Blatten, is still 42.5 kilometres long and has an altitude difference of 848 metres. The mountain prize planned in honour of the deceased professional cyclist Gino Mäder on the Nufenen Pass will now be awarded on the Gotthard Pass on stage 4. We have compiled all the other stages of the Tour de Suisse and the route of the women's Tour de Suisse here.
The round trip through Switzerland is traditionally one of the most Criterium du Dauphine the last important endurance test for many Tour de France favourites shortly before the start of the Tour of Francewhich begins this year on 29 June.
