Cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar continues to dominate the Tour de Romandie in Switzerland. A fourth place on the third stage was enough for the 27-year-old Slovenian to defend the overall leader's yellow jersey ahead of the German Florian Lipowitz.
Frenchman Dorian Godon took the stage win after 176.6 kilometres with start and finish in Orbe in a sprint ahead of Finn Fisher-Black from New Zealand and Frenchman Valentin Paret-Peintre. Pogacar continues to lead the overall standings by 17 seconds ahead of 25-year-old Lipowitz. Four-time Tour de France winner Pogacar has already celebrated two stage wins at the Tour de Romandie.
German pro Georg Steinhauser put in a strong performance. The 24-year-old, who surprised everyone with third place in the Paris-Nice long-distance cycling race in mid-March, was active for a long time in a breakaway group that initially consisted of seven riders. Steinhauser was only caught by the peloton just three kilometres before the finish.
A challenging mountain stage is on the programme for the riders on Saturday. The fourth stage of the day leads over 149.6 kilometres and 3,175 metres in altitude from Broc to Charmey. The peloton will have to cross the Jaun Pass at an altitude of 1,508 metres three times. The Tour de Romandie ends on Sunday in Leysin.
