After his coup in the opening time trial, Belgian Yves Lampaert rolls through Denmark in the yellow jersey of the Tour de France.
It is likely that the classics specialist will successfully defend his lead on the 202.2 kilometre second stage from Roskilde to Nyborg.
The finale leads over the almost 20-kilometre-long bridge over the Great Belt and was a big topic in the run-up to the race. However, according to the weather forecast, there will be a headwind there, so the dreaded chaos is unlikely to materialise. However, this could happen in the 30 kilometres or so before the bridge if the peloton heads south and the wind comes from the side.
After their first defeat in the opening time trial, Primoz Roglic and Co. must capitalise on the strength of their team Jumbo-Visma and put Tadej Pogacar under pressure. If they manage to hold off the Slovenian in the crosswinds, they can in theory pull out a big lead. But Pogacar also knows this and doesn't want to be taken by surprise. "It's us against him. We have to play our cards right," said Roglic's helper and last year's runner-up Jonas Vingegaard.
Yves Lampaert scored a coup with his ride into the yellow jersey. And the Belgian is likely to retain the lead in the overall classification for the time being. After all, the 31-year-old is regarded as a classics specialist who can cope well with the terrain of the opening week. Lampaert will also want to put his sprinter Fabio Jakobsen in a good position and will therefore often be at the front of the peloton.
