Tadej Pogacar is going for his third victory in a row at the Tour de France. As expected, the 23-year-old Slovenian was nominated by his team UAE as captain for the 109th Tour of France.
Pogacar won the last two editions of the world's most important cycling race and was in a class of his own last year in particular. The Tour starts on Friday in Copenhagen with a 13.2 kilometre individual time trial.
Pogacar has been given a team of strong climbers to support him. In the mountains, he will be supported by Poland's Rafal Majka, the US American Brandon McNulty, the Spaniard Marc Soler and the New Zealander George Bennett. The Norwegian Vegard Stake Laengen and the two classics specialists Matteo Trentin (Italy) and Mikkel Bjerg (Denmark) have also been nominated. As expected, German sprinter Pascal Ackermann did not make it into the eight-man squad.
