Bora-Hansgrohe will start the Tour de France with three German pros: Nils Politt, Lennard Kämna and Maximilian Schachmann will tackle the 109th Tour of France. This was announced by team boss Ralph Denk in the Podcast of the team.
In addition to the German trio, the Austrians Felix Großschartner, Patrick Konrad and Marco Haller as well as the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov and the Dutchman Danny van Poppel have been called up.
Surprisingly, there was no place for Irish sprinter Sam Bennett, winner of the green jersey in 2020, in the eight-rider squad.
The Tour starts on Friday in Copenhagen with an individual time trial. As captain, Vlasov should ensure a strong result in the overall standings.
"We are hoping for the podium and want to ride aggressively and aggressively. A stage win would also be nice. Then I would be happy in Paris," said Denk. Vlasov, who has been immensely strong this year, and Schachmann had recently fallen ill with Covid-19, but apparently recovered quickly.
The new German champion Politt and Kämna in particular are expected to secure stage victories. Kämna already achieved this in May at the Giro d'Italiawhich Bora later surprisingly won in the overall standings with Australian Jai Hindley.
