German professional cyclist Pascal Ackermann has withdrawn from the Tour de France’s queen stage. According to a statement on the Tour organisers’ website, the sprinter pulled out of the race on the climb up to the Col de la Croix-de-Fer. The reason for his withdrawal is not yet known.
Things did not go as Ackermann had hoped in his third Tour appearance. He was barely able to make his mark in the bunch sprints. His best result was seventh place on the eighth stage to Bergerac. The 32-year-old has yet to secure a Tour stage victory. In the Giro, however, he has already celebrated three stage wins, whilst he has won two stages in the Vuelta.
