The person was too far onto the road on the 15th stage about 128 kilometres before the finish and stuck his arm out. Apparently, the spectator was holding a smartphone. The US American Sepp Kuss, who was riding at the front of the peloton, touched the arm, crashed and took around 20 riders down with him. In the mountains, Kuss is the most important helper of defending champion Jonas Vingegaard.
Incidents like this happen again and again in the Tour de France. Jordi Meeus from the German cycling team Bora-Hansgrohe almost crashed on the eleventh stage on Wednesday due to a similar incident. Earlier, Belgian rider Steff Cras had blamed a spectator for his elimination from the Tour de France after crashing on stage eight.
