Not much happens for a long time on the sprint stage in central France. 30 kilometres from the finish, the German professional Georg Zimmermann crashes.

German professional cyclist Georg Zimmermann crashed on the eleventh stage of this year’s Tour de France. Around 30 kilometres before the finish in Nevers, television footage showed the 28-year-old from Augsburg lying on the ground and being examined by the race doctors. Afterwards, the former German champion was at least able to get back on his feet.

Last year, Zimmermann was forced to withdraw from the Tour de France before the tenth stage as a result of a crash.

The incident took place at a point where team staff hand out feed bags to the riders. As well as Zimmermann, a few other professional riders were also involved. It was not immediately clear how the incident came about. The eleventh stage took the professional cyclists 161.3 kilometres from Vichy to Nevers in central France.
