Shortly before the Tour time trial, US professional Brandon McNulty, from the team led by star rider Pogacar, gets into a row with a motorist.

Ahead of the start of the only individual time trial at this year’s Tour de France, American professional cyclist Brandon McNulty had an unpleasant encounter with a motorist. The team-mate of superstar Tadej Pogacar and Cologne-based Nils Politt apparently collided with a car before the start of the 16th stage.

The driver had been tailgating him angrily, team boss Mauro Gianetti told Eurosport. “We don’t know why. He overtook him. Brandon stopped. And then, unfortunately, he collided with the car,” he said. Ultimately, however, it wasn’t “a big deal”. “Everything’s fine. But it wasn’t very pleasant,” said the 62-year-old.

The professional rider’s start in the time trial was not in jeopardy. The professional cyclists faced a challenging stage not far from Lake Geneva following the second rest day. A 26.1-kilometre course between Evian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains was on the programme.
