No hit, but in high spirits: Germany’s cycling star Florian Lipowitz had time for a bit of fun on the 12th stage of the Tour de France. The 25-year-old from the German Red Bull team aimed a water bottle at a target board set up at the side of the road, missed, and commented succinctly on TV: “That’s why I gave up biathlon.”
Lipowitz had begun his sporting career as a biathlete and was also a member of the national squad. Because he trained a lot on his bike – partly due to injury – he discovered his love of and talent for cycling. In his first Tour de France last year, Lipowitz finished third and made it straight onto the podium. Once again, he is Germany’s biggest hope in the general classification.
