Shortly before departure for the Tour de France, the homes of riders and support staff of the Bahrain-Victorious team have been searched. This was announced by the team.
The statement did not specify which persons were affected and where the police searches took place.
No reason was given either. "The timing of this investigation is deliberately designed to damage the team's reputation," the statement read. The Tour de France begins on Friday in Copenhagen.
During the last Tour de France, the hotel rooms of Bahrain-Victorious were searched in the Pyrenees. According to the riders, mobile phones were also confiscated.
A result of the investigation is apparently still pending. So far, no official investigation has been initiated against any rider, nor have any bans been imposed. Bahrain-Victorious won the team classification and three stages in the last Tour.
