The 35-year-old London Olympic champion from the Netherlands won the second stage in the sprint of a breakaway group ahead of the Italian Silvia Persico and Katarzyna Niewiadoma from Poland.
After the 136.5 kilometre section between Meaux and Provins to the east of Paris, Vos is ten seconds ahead of Persico and twelve seconds ahead of Niewiadoma in the overall standings.
Once again, the finale of the stage was characterised by serious crashes. Several riders fell three times in the last 30 kilometres. Among those affected were the top pros Marta Cavalli from Italy and Cecilie Ludwig from Denmark.
In addition, strong crosswinds played a significant role, causing the peloton to split into several parts and the Opening winner Lorena Wiebes lost the connection to the front and her yellow jersey.
On Tuesday, it will be more profiled, especially in the finale. After the start in the Champagne city of Reims, the route is initially flat heading south. After a 180-degree loop, the route leads over three mountain classifications to Épernay. After 133.6 kilometres, there is likely to be a sprint by a smaller group.
