The 2nd Tour de France Femmes begins in Clermont-Ferrand. Stage 1 takes the women to the north of the city and then brings them back to the starting point. The start is a good warm-up. The first 80 kilometres are completely flat before the last third has a few metres of climbing. Nine kilometres before the finish, the Cote de Durtol is crossed, which is less than two kilometres long but has an average gradient of more than seven per cent. After that, it's all downhill until the finishing straight. However, it then climbs again - at 3.5 per cent.
The Grand Depart of the Tour is treacherous, but a bunch sprint on the largely flat stage is not certain due to the difficult finale. There will be attacks on the mountain, the road to the finish is not far. Whether an attack is successful or not depends on the strength of the sprinters' teams, who will have to work hard to close the gap in time.
The Tour de France Femmes is one of the most important cycling races in women's cycling and takes place from 23 to 30 July. It is part of the UCI Women's World Tour. The tour consists of a total of eight stages and leads the riders through spectacular landscapes in France. The race director is Marion Rousse. The second edition of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will take place in 2023. Annemiek van Vleuten from the Netherlands won the premiere in 2022 ahead of her compatriot Demi Vollering and Katarzyna Niewiadoma from Poland.
In 2023, there will be a total of 22 teams with seven female riders each. The complete start list for the women's Tour de France can be found here.
