According to the DSM-Firmenich team, the only all-electric team car in the Tour de France field was used: the Volvo EX90.

To be on the safe side, the Volvo EX90 always drives as the second vehicle at the back of the field. But the experience so far has been good, according to press officer Emily Brammeier. "Even on long mountain stages, the battery has not yet run out because it is partially recharged by the recuperation," she says. Although they make sure that the battery can be fully charged again on long sections directly before the start, the team members no longer have a "range anxiety".

Depending on the country, however, the use of electric cars can be a logistical challenge. "In Spain, we had trouble finding charging stations near our hotels. In France, the infrastructure is much better and everything is much easier," continues Brammeier. Within the next four to five years, the team wants to switch completely to electric vehicles, apart from buses and lorries.
