A few days after the Tour de Suisse, German road champion Maximilian Schachmann has also tested positive for coronavirus and may not be able to take part in the Tour de France.
He has already cancelled his start at the German Championships this weekend in Sauerland, where he wanted to defend his title from the previous year. "Effects on a possible Tour de France nomination cannot yet be estimated," said his Bora-hansgrohe-racing team. Schachmann was originally scheduled for the 109th Tour of France, which begins on 1 July in Copenhagen. The Bora team will announce its line-up on Sunday.
With the Tour de Suisse there have been numerous cases of coronavirus in the past week. More than 40 riders had to end the race prematurely.
There were also three positive tests in Schachmann's team during the tour, including the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov, who even had to leave the race in first place overall.
Schachmann, on the other hand, had finished the Tour de Suisse in tenth place overall. Now the setback. The Berlin-born rider had been set back by a coronavirus illness at the beginning of the year and then a serious infection.
