For the eliminated riders, dropping out of the Tour de France is usually an enormous disappointment, as they have trained hard and sometimes prepared for months. However, dropping out has not only a physical but also a mental impact on those affected. They have to deal with the disappointment and possibly also deal with questions from their fans, sponsors and the media.
