Despite his second podium in a row yesterday ended with a setback for Phil Bauhaus at the Tour de France. Because the sprinter from the Bahrain-Victorious team allegedly obstructed a rider shortly before the finale, according to the Tour jury, all points for the green jersey were deducted from the rider from Bocholt. Bauhaus also received a 30-second time penalty in the overall classification and a fine of 500 Swiss francs.
Bauhaus was relaxed about the penalty imposed on him by the race organisers. "I think Lidl-Trek lodged an appeal. The jury then assessed it and that's it for me," the Bahrain-Victorious pro cyclist told TOUR.
As a result, the Bahrain pro lost his promising eighth place in the sprint classification. "That doesn't matter to me. I never had the goal of going green," said the 28-year-old shortly before the start of the first Pyrenean stage from Pau to Laruns with three mountain classifications. "Of course you have respect for it. But I hope that I can finish the next few days without any major difficulties."
Small consolation: Bauhaus was allowed to keep his third place on the stage from Dax to Nogaro. The 28-year-old Tour de France debutant had already sprinted to second place on the podium on the third stage.
