John Degenkolb is competing in the Tour de France for the eighth time.
The former Paris-Roubaix winner is part of his team DSM's eight-man squad for the race that starts in Copenhagen on 1 July. Tour de France. However, there was no place in the DSM team for his German team-mate Nikias Arndt. The squad is led by Frenchman Romain Bardet, the 2016 Tour runner-up.
Degenkolb can hope for a stage win, especially in the tricky wind-edge or cobblestone stages in the first week.
This is how the fifth stage over a total of eleven cobblestone sectors and ends just before the infamous Arenberg Forest, which is always on the programme of the classic Paris-Roubaix.
In 2018, Degenkolb took his only stage win at the Tour de France on a similar section in Roubaix.
