Lidl - Trek has announced the signing of Georg Zimmermann. The 28-year-old joins from Lotto-Intermarché and has signed a contract with the German WorldTour team until the end of 2029. After seven years with CCC and Lotto-Intermarché The Augsburg rider is making the move to one of the biggest teams in the peloton.
The Eschborn victory as the highlight of his career
Georg Zimmermann won the Eschborn–Frankfurt WorldTour race in May 2026 wearing the German champion’s jersey. This success marked the highlight of his career to date. His other victories include wins at the Tour de l’Ain, the 2023 Critérium du Dauphiné, the Giro d’Abruzzo and the 2025 German Road Championships. He also demonstrated his versatility at the 2024 Tour de France, where he won a stage.
New tactical possibilities for
"For the first seven years of my career, I rode for a smaller WorldTour team," explains Georg Zimmermann in his new team’s official statement. "I think the biggest change is that our tactics will change. Previously, it was all about what the other teams were doing. Big teams like Lidl-Trek actively shape the race.” The German’s attacking riding style suits this new role. He regularly seeks out breakaway groups and attacks when opportunities arise. The infrastructure and resources of a top WorldTour team can help him realise his full potential.
Familiar faces in the new team
Georg Zimmermann is reunited with familiar faces at Lidl-Trek. Dr Daniele Zaccaria was his team doctor during his first year as a professional. “I have very fond memories of that time,” says Zimmermann. He is also delighted to be working with Lennard Kämna. He sets out his goal for the duration of the contract clearly: “To become the best version of Georg Zimmermann with the best possible support – with the best coaches, the best kit and the best nutritional advice.”
Schleck sees potential for development
Team manager Andy Schleck has been following Zimmermann’s development over the past six years in the WorldTour peloton. “His attitude, determination and fearless racing style have left a lasting impression on all of us,” says Schleck. “He most recently demonstrated his abilities with his victory at Eschborn–Frankfurt, but we believe there is still scope for Georg to develop further at Lidl-Trek.” The Luxembourger particularly highlights Zimmermann’s ability to attack at crucial moments and shape races.
