Professional cyclist Warren Barguil has won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico long-distance cycling tour. After 155 kilometres from Sefro to Fermo, the 30-year-old Frenchman won the demanding finale with a narrow lead over the Belgian Xandro Meurisse and Simone Velasco.
The Slovenian Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar continues to lead the overall standings. On Saturday, the riders have to tackle 215 kilometres from Apecchio to Carpegna. In the finale of the sixth and penultimate stage, two climbs pose the greatest difficulty. The race ends on Sunday with a stage around San Benedetto del Tronto on the Italian east coast.
