The Slovenian cycling star from Jumbo-Visma won the uphill finish of the fifth stage in Lo Port by six seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel (Soudal - Quick Step). This puts Roglic ten seconds ahead of the Belgian road world champion ahead of the final weekend.
The favoured duo had started the stage at the same time, Roglic was ahead in the overall standings due to his better placings on the day. After a largely quiet stage, Evenepoel launched the first attack 4.5 kilometres before the finish, but Roglic followed without any problems. The Belgian then held back before attacking again 300 metres before the finish. However, he was no longer able to follow Roglic's counterattack.
