The Tour de France Femmes is approaching and the Lidl Trek team is in impressive form. Especially in the sprint Elisa Balsamo is currently right at the front. The Italian sprinter recently secured an important stage win at the Tour de Suisse. She prevailed in a tight final on the third stage, underlining her qualities as a fast sprinter. Balsamo, who has already been world champion, showed that she is also capable of winning stages in demanding tours. This ability could be of great value in the Tour de France Femmes, especially on the flatter stages where sprint decisions are to be expected.
But the team doesn't just shine in the sprint. With Ellen van Dijk, Anna Henderson, Emma Norsgaard and Niamh Fisher-Black, there are four other top riders in the line-up. Ellen van Dijk in particular, with her second place in the Amstel Gold Race and other good results, still seems to be in good form. Only Fisher-Black can be considered for the overall classification. Although the young New Zealander is unlikely to win the Tour overall, the 24-year-old certainly has her eye on the podium. A sixth place at the Vuelta and a fourth place at the Tour de Suisse this year underline this.
Lidl-Trek's unity was also evident in the team time trial at the Vuelta, which the team has already won this year. The breadth of the Lidl-Trek women's squad adds to its strength and puts the team at the centre of attention when it comes to stage wins.
