The Transfer from Remco Evenepoel to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe is one of the most spectacular moves in cycling in recent years. The Belgian superstar, who won gold in both the road race and the individual time trial at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, is leaving Soudal Quick-Step to join the German World Tour team from the coming season. This news is also causing controversy in the TOUR community, as our voting shows. Of the more than 1200 participants who voted in the period from Wednesday (6 August) to Sunday (10 August), only 17 per cent rated the move as a "top transfer for Red Bull". The vast majority were cautious or relied on Florian Lipowitz: 44 per cent said they were unsure what strategy Red Bull would pursue in future, while 39 per cent thought that Florian Lipowitz should be the clear number one in the team. The 24-year-old German caused a stir at the Tour de France 2025 by finishing third overall and winning the white jersey for the best young rider - a jersey that Evenepoel himself had won the previous year.
What do you think of the Evenepoel transfer?
We also asked for your opinion on Instagram: in the comments there, the concern about the future distribution of roles in the team is clear. "Then not all the pressure is on Lipo. I'm curious about the strategy... I couldn't follow it on the last tour - probably too ingenious for me," writes a user with the name sven_ewaldson. Another comment by the user tobi_seven7_ expresses concerns about the team structure: "With Flo, Primoz and Remco now three number 1 riders. Let's see if there's any movement. I can well imagine Primoz leaving..." In fact, the question arises as to how the German team will deal with several potential captains. In addition to Lipowitz and the newly signed Evenepoel, Primož Roglič is another Grand Tour winner in the squad, who won the Vuelta in 2024 at the age of 34, the second overall Grand Tour victory for the German team.

Some fans doubt that Evenepoel will be successful in the Tour de France in the coming years. "Remco won't win the Tour in the next few years," predicts an Instagram user called trilifemat. Another commentator by the name of tomspadator writes: "I think Remco is going to go downhill against Pogačar and Vingegaard at Bora Hansgrohe. He's often gone down well against both of them." This scepticism is not unfounded: At this year's Tour de France, the Belgian had to come off his bike exhausted during the 14th stage in the Pyrenees, having previously won the first time trial. Lipowitz, on the other hand, was consistently strong at the Tour and outperformed Evenepoel at both the Tour de France and the Tour of the Dauphiné.
One possible solution for the coexistence of Evenepoel and Lipowitz in the same team could be a clear division of tasks. "Lipo for the grand tours, Remco for the one-day races," suggests Instagram user timelbe99. This strategy would correspond to the respective strengths of the two riders. Evenepoel has already proven in his career that he can excel in one-day races and shorter stage races. His greatest successes include the 2022 world road race title, Olympic road and individual time trial victories and wins in classics such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Lipowitz, on the other hand, presented himself as an excellent climber and consistent tour rider at the 2025 Tour de France.
How the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe team will ultimately line up for the 2026 season and what exactly the planning with Lipowitz and Evenepoel will look like will become clear in the coming months. We will definitely keep you up to date on TOUR.
