Lennard Kämna kam im Hauptfeld ins Ziel und verteidigte sein Bergtrikot und den zweiten Platz in der Gesamtwertung.

French professional cyclist Arnaud Démare has celebrated his second stage win at the 105th Giro d'Italia.

One day after his success in Messina, the 30-year-old from Team Groupama-FDJ once again came out on top in the bunch sprint, beating 27-year-old Australian Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) into second place after a photo finish in a millimetre decision. Four-time world champion Mark Cavendish (Great Britain/Quick-Step) came third on the sixth stage over 192 kilometres from Palmi to Scalea. The best German was Phil Bauhaus from Team Bahrain-Victorious in sixth place.

Lennard Kämna from the German team Bora-hansgrohe finished in the peloton and easily defended his mountains jersey and second place in the overall standings. Spaniard Juan Pedro Lopez (Trek-Segafredo) continues to wear the overall leader's pink jersey. He has a 38-second lead over Kämna, who won the mountain finish on Mount Etna on Tuesday.

After the mass arrival during the day, the sprinters once again had their turn, with no difficulties to overcome on the 192 kilometres apart from a fourth category climb. The 33-year-old Italian Diego Rosa from the Eolo-Kometa team had taken the lead of the peleton after 167 kilometres; as a breakaway rider, he had a lead of over three minutes at times. But 28.5 kilometres before the finish, he was dropped by the peloton. In the bunch sprint, Démare once again had the best legs, although the decision was extremely close.

The seventh stage on Friday leads from Diamante to Potenza over 196 kilometres, with no less than 4730 metres in altitude to overcome. The Giro ends in Verona on 29 May.
