Lennard Kämna celebrated his second win of the season at the Tour of the Alps.
The professional cyclist from the Bora-hansgrohe team won the third stage over 155 kilometres from Lana to Villabassa after an attack from a leading group in the final phase. Andrey Amador from Costa Rica came second ahead of Spaniard Jonathan Lastra. Kämna celebrated his first success of the year after a break of several months at the Tour of Andalusia in February.
"I probably wouldn't have had a chance in the sprint, so I put everything I had into my attacks. They brought me back twice, but everyone was at their limit, so I tried a third time. That worked out and the victory feels really good before the Giro," said Kämna.
The Tour of the Alps is regarded as a classic preparation race for the Giro d'Italia, which starts in Budapest on 6 May. Kämna could start there as a helper for Emanuel Buchmann, who wants to finish in the top three in the overall standings.
