Olympic champion Émilien Jacquelin will be competing in cycling next year, rather than in biathlon as he has done until now. The 31-year-old announced this decision to all his fans this evening in a video message from the French Ski Federation.
Jacquelin said, however, that “the 2030 Olympics remain the goal – as I have always said”. The next Winter Olympics, in three and a half years’ time, will take place in the French Alps. This February, Jacquelin won gold in the relay and bronze in the pursuit at the Olympic competitions in Antholz, Italy.
A message to biathlon fans
The successful biathlete emphasised that he did not regard this as a permanent farewell. For now, the focus is on the coming season. Jacquelin has been training with the Decathlon-CMA CGM junior team since the beginning of May.
He had a six-month internship contract, Jacquelin had told *L’Equipe*. Although he had broken his collarbone in a fall at the start of May and had to undergo surgery, he was already competing in his first events by the summer. He addressed his biathlon fans with the words: “See you soon.”
