Tom Pidcock has once again demonstrated his exceptional skills as a downhill specialist. The 25-year-old Briton reached speeds of up to 95 km/h during a training run on the Rossfeld panoramic road on the German-Austrian border. The video material published by Red Bull shows the Olympic champion on his breathtaking descent down the 6-kilometre course. Pidcock, who rides for Team Q36.5, utilised the so-called supertuck position during his ride in order to adopt the most aerodynamic position possible. This technique has been banned for racing by the UCI, but may still be used outside of competition.
But Pidcock didn't just show off his riding skills. The Tour de France stage winner also pedalled hard. According to the recordings, he reached power peaks of over 800 watts. The recordings were made by Matthias Walkner, a Dakar Rally winner, who followed Pidcock on a motorbike. After the spectacular descent, Walkner was visibly impressed by Pidcock's performance and applauded the professional cyclist. The motorcyclist then pulled the professional cyclist back up the mountain.
Tom Pidcock has long since made a name for himself in the cycling world as an outstanding downhill rider. At his Tour de France debut in 2022, he not only caused a sensation with his stage win on the legendary Alpe d'Huez. His descents of the Col du Galibier and the Col de la Croix de Fer, where he reached speeds of over 100 km/h, were also memorable. In 2023, Pidcock once again attracted attention with a spectacular descent. In a video published on YouTube by American cyclist Safa Brian, the Brit can be seen riding down Tuna Canyon in Los Angeles. This video has now been viewed over 2.7 million times and underlines Pidcock's popularity far beyond the borders of cycling.
