Brisbane (dpa) - A serious crash has overshadowed the Track Cycling World Cup in Brisbane. In the first women's omnium race, the scratch, several riders went down in the bend on Sunday and partially hit each other.

Rinata Sultanova from Kazakhstan, Clara Copponi from France, Kie Furuyama from Japan and Shannon McCurley from Ireland then had to retire from the race. Copponi at least wrote on Instagram afterwards: "Nothing serious, time for a break." McCurley at least rode the tempo race as her second discipline before giving up.

Sze Wing Lee from Hong Kong, Xiaofei Wang from China, Tereza Medvedova from Slovakia and Anastassiya Chulkova from Russia, on the other hand, finished the omnium. The winner was Jennifer Vallentin from the USA. There were no German riders at the start on the final day.
