The German Cycling Federation will be competing at the Road World Championships in Wollongong, Australia (18th to 25th September) without any stars from the men's front row.
This is the result of the 29-rider line-up announced by the BDR on Tuesday. The six-man elite men's squad is made up of former Giro and Vuelta stage winner Nikias Arndt, Nico Denz, Miguel Heidemann, Jonas Koch, Jannik Steimle and Georg Zimmermann, who recently finished fourth overall in the Tour of Germany.
However, stars such as the Bora-hansgrohe quartet Nils Politt, Lennard Kämna, Maximilian Schachmann and Emanuel Buchmann are missing from the BDR squad. The 266.9-kilometre men's road race with a total of 3945 metres of climbing is likely to suit the classics specialists in particular.
German road champion Liane Lippert heads the women's elite line-up. U23 title holder Ricarda Bauernfeind will also be representing the German colours in Australia. The BDR will not decide which riders will compete in the individual time trials and the team time trials until they arrive in Australia. The federation has also not yet provided any information about possible captain roles.
