Fredy Alexander Gonzales Torres, Nairo Quintana's former doctor, was convicted of "possession and administration of prohibited substances/methods".

The court in Marseille sentenced him to six months' probation and a fine of 15,000 euros. He must also pay Quintana's former team Arkéa-Samsic 60,000 euros in compensation. During a raid on the sidelines of the 2020 Tour de France, banned substances were found in the Colombian doctor's possession. According to a report in the L'Équipe that he wanted to administer them to Nairo Quintana and his brother. The accused's defence lawyer plans to appeal. If this is unsuccessful, there could also be UCI proceedings against Nairo and Dayer Quintana.

Meanwhile, Bernard Sainz, one of the best-known figures in cycling doping, is once again on trial in Paris. Sainz did not complete a medical degree, but since 1972 he has repeatedly appeared in the company of doped cyclists. This earned him the nickname Dr Mabuse. He was last convicted and sentenced in 2008, and this time the public prosecutor's office is demanding four years in prison for aiding and abetting doping and the illegal practice of medicine and drug trafficking.
