The German cycling team Red Bull has officially announced the signing of professional cyclist Georg Steinhauser. The 24-year-old has signed a multi-year contract and will ride for the team from next season onwards, the team announced.
“Georg combines climbing talent, racing intelligence and an attacking mindset. He has worked hard to achieve his success in recent years, and we are convinced that he is still a long way from reaching his full potential,” said sporting director Zak Dempster.
On the Red Bull team, he will be joining Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel from Belgium and German cycling star Florian Lipowitz, who finished third overall in last year’s Tour de France. Lipowitz and Steinhauser know each other from the past, as, according to the statement, they rode together for two years before one of them turned professional.
2024 Giro stage victory
The son of Jan Ullrich’s former team-mate Tobias Steinhauser rode for the US team EF Education-EasyPost for four years. This summer, Steinhauser made his debut at the Tour de France. There, he acted as a domestique for the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, who won two stages in the 113th edition.
The Allgäu-born professional celebrated his greatest success in 2024, when he won the 17th stage of the Giro d’Italia on the Passo Brocon. At this year’s Paris–Nice stage race, Steinhauser finished third overall and claimed the white jersey for the best young rider. In 2025, the Allgäu native had been set back by a long-undetected case of Lyme disease resulting from a tick bite.
