Berlin (dpa) - Professional cyclist Lennard Kämna would forgo a start at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in favour of the Tour de France.

"The current plan is that we athletes would have to go into quarantine two weeks before the Games - that would be in the middle of the Tour de France. So if I had to decide, I'd rather ride the Tour," the 24-year-old from Team Bora-hansgrohe in Schleswig-Holstein told the "Sportbuzzer".

The 108th Tour of France is scheduled from 26 June to 18 July. The road cycling competitions at the Summer Games in Tokyo, which were postponed to this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, are scheduled to take place around a week after the end of the Tour.

The 24-year-old Kämna had won the demanding 16th stage in Villard-de-Lans in the French Alps as a soloist in the 2020 Tour of France. A few weeks earlier, the North German had already won a mountain arrival as a soloist at the Tour dress rehearsal Criterium du Dauphiné.
