On the 127 kilometre route, the 36-year-old Voß was able to pull away from his rivals early on and reached the finish line solo after 3 hours 55 minutes and 9 seconds.
"I was able to break away from a group of three after the first lap. It wasn't a real attack, but rather a consistently high pace, which then opened up the gap," said Voß at the Cycling magazines quoted.
Second place went to Innokenty Zavyalov (USA), who lost 4 minutes and 17 seconds to Voß. Third place went to local hero Colin Strickland from Texas, who was hampered by a respiratory infection.
Meanwhile, Emma Grant won the women's race ahead of Jenn Real and Celine Oberholzer. Britain's Grant put in an extremely dominant performance and crossed the finish line after 4 hours, 40 minutes and 47 seconds, almost 25 minutes ahead of Real.
On the route, the riders had to battle their way over a long mountain, gravel sections and also passages with sand. A total of 1,275 metres in altitude had to be mastered.
