If there is not enough time for a bunch sprint on the first day, the second section is almost a mown meadow for the fast men. However, there is always the risk of wind edges in the area, as in 2019, when there were time gaps between the favourites on the way to Bellegarde and Egan Bernal laid the foundation for his later overall victory.

Stage 5 is a feast for puncheurs. On the last 50 kilometres, there are numerous short, poisonous climbs where the lactate will shoot through the riders' legs. The final ramp, the Mur de Notre-Dame-de-Sciez, will separate the wheat from the chaff on the up to 18 per cent steep ramps.

The sprinters should get another chance before the final weekend. At 209.8 kilometres, the longest stage has three category 3 mountain classifications, but should not pose any major problems for the fast men.
On Friday, A.S.O. announced a short-term Change of route for the 7th stage announced on Saturday. The reason for this is the unfavourable weather conditions in the Alpes-Maritimes region, particularly at higher altitudes. Here is the new stage profile.
