Success for the German para-cyclists: Maike Hausberger, Vanessa Laws and Jana Majunke celebrated overall victories in the World Cup at the World Cup final in Italy. Michael Teuber and Maximilian Jäger were the best of the day in the individual time trial He just doesn't get tired: Michael Teuber remains successful in his 28th season of international cycling. The 57-year-old from Odelzhausen won the C1 class individual time trial at the last World Cup competition in Maniago, Italy. With an hourly average of 41km/h, he set a clear best time over 24.1 kilometres, 22 seconds ahead of the first competitor. Teuber had previously won the World Cup time trial in Ostende (Belgium). "Of course, it's great for me that I can still ride at the front. I'm also a bit surprised myself," said Teuber about his success, according to a press release from the German Disabled Sports Federation (DBS). Last year, he was unable to win the World Cup after a serious training crash, but made a strong comeback in the summer with silver at the Paralympics in Paris. The 57-year-old finished sixth in the road race in Maniago. Maximilian Jäger contributed the second victory of the day in the men's individual time trial in the T2 tricycle class. The rider from Bad Kissingen won the battle against the clock by a good three seconds and finished fourth in the road race.

A German women's trio celebrated overall victory in the World Cup classification: C2 rider Maike Hausberger started with second place in the time trial. She was unlucky in the road race and was initially left behind after a rear wheel defect, but fought her way up to sixth place and thus took the overall victory. Young athlete Vanessa Laws caused a surprise and a lot of joy. The C4 rider first won bronze in the time trial and triumphed two days later in the road race. She thus dominated her class. Two weeks earlier, she had finished on the World Cup podium in Ostend for the first time in her young career. "I'm a bit lost for words at the moment," said the 21-year-old from Ludwigsfelde. Third among the overall winners: Jana Majunke. The T2 tricycle rider took bronze in the individual time trial and won the road race two days later. Her team-mate Angelika Dreock-Käser took second place twice.

Pierre Senska, who finished second in his class after a strong sprint to the finish in the road race, and the experienced Kerstin Brachtendorf, who came third in both the individual time trial and the road race, delivered further top placings. Lara Wolleschensky stood out among the young riders. She was second best in her class in the individual time trial and crossed the finish line first in the sprint of the road race - but was penalised to fifth place for riding against the rules.

17 World Cup qualifiers

"I am more than satisfied with the results we have achieved. 17 athletes qualified for the World Championships across both World Cups. The youngsters also presented themselves strongly and impressed," summarised national coach Gregor Lang. The next highlights for the para-cyclists are the German Track Championships in Cottbus (6 to 8 June), the German Road Championships in Rheinbach (29 June) and the German Time Trial Championships (13 July). The Road World Championships will take place from 28 to 31 August in Ronse, Belgium.
