Vor seinem Sturz bei Brügge-De Panne hatte Pascal Ackermann das Rennnen in Koksijde gewonnen.

A crash shortly before the finish cost professional cyclist Pascal Ackermann another top position within five days at the 46th edition of the Belgian one-day race Bruges-De Panne.

The 28-year-old from the Palatinate came down 1.5 kilometres from the finish line in a good position and lost his hopes of his second win of the season. After his fall, Ackermann was lying on the ground clutching his elbow. On Friday, he had also celebrated his first victory in the jersey of his new team UAE Emirates at the Bredene Koksijde Classic in Belgium.

After 207.9 kilometres, Belgian Tim Merlier won the bunch sprint in De Panne after a photo finish ahead of Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen and Nacer Bouhanni from France. Max Walscheid sprinted to fourth place as the best German. "It was very hectic and chaotic in the final. It's good that I got round the last bend well," said Merlier.
